with Naomi Eller, Matthew Harris, Hootan Heydari, Nina Girbert, Sam Martin, and Andy Thomas
Refrains are the stuff of life, both macro and micro, forming boundaries and territories within entropy. Rhythms and rituals are ubiquitous, from everyday routines, to the cosmic constraints of day and night, birth and death. The studio is also a space where the repeated physical action of making takes place.
In this exhibition, repetitions appear in works spanning sculpture, painting, photography, and the digital, a means of achieving visual symphonies where time is stretched and deepened. Yet simmering below surfaces are narratives ranging from the historical, natural, theoretical, to the mythical – palimpsest-like in concept or process. Formalism and subject grind up together creating spaces of mystery, opaqueness and revelations.

Guest curated by contemporary artist Adam John Cullen, Three Hares brings together works from the SAM Ceramic Collection alongside responsive new works by five invited artists. Three Hares examines the inherent qualities of ceramic objects, through groupings of form, texture and glazing; the show evokes Cullen’s perception of the creative process of making, collecting, and curating objects as an endless circle of interchangeable ideas and materials.
